Who doesn’t love chocolate, but chocolate ice cream is nearly the best combination of textures and flavors ever. And since national chocolate ice cream day falls early in the summer it allows us a long time to enjoy the fabulous creation into the fall.
The history of ice cream goes back further than most of us realize. In this article by “WhoCanDoWhat.com” tips://whocandowhat.com/who-invented-chocolate-ice-cream “ they trace the earliest beginnings of ice cream like treats to China around 200 BCE. They would combine snow with fruit and flavoring to recreate a refreshing treat.”
It would be much later before chocolate, would be mixed to form chocolate ice cream. That would require Christopher Columbus to live in the Americas and bring back cacao beans to make into a drink of the ancient Mayans and Incas of Central America.
But the transformation of chocolate from a bitter drink of the elite to Jack ice cream still had a very long way to go. As it spread throughout Europe, everyone seem to make changes and improvements to this new flavor. Eventually, it became a more confectionary form.
It wasn’t until the Renaissance that mostly Italian chefs began creating frozen concoctions and desserts. They added all kinds of ingredients from wine, honey, fruit, and more to create these creamy desserts, but it wasn’t until the 17th century until Europe, England, France, and Italy made their own concoctions that made chocolate ice cream popular.
But how did it reach the Americas? “ One popular series suggests that Thomas Jefferson brought the recipe back from Europe in the 1800s for which we are now all grateful.
According to a 2022 yougov.poll vanilla and chocolate ice cream nearly tied in popularity in which the favorite vanilla got 11% and chocolate got 10% for the entire vote.
But this is national chocolate ice cream day so have some friends over and scoop up a selection from: straight chocolate, Rocky Road, chocolate mint chip, Neapolitan, Reese‘s chocolate combination, chocolate chip, chocolate truffle, extra creamy, chocolate chocolate peanut butter, and these are just the Breyer’s ice cream flavors.
