National Cuddle Up Day - January 6, 2024

I hope today you’re celebrating National Cuddle Up Day - literally - cuddled up. Whether it be with your favorite person, your favorite pet, your favorite hot beverage or your favorite book, I hope you’re under the blankets and pillows and snuggled in for a great cuddle.

As a writer, I find the interaction of cuddling, snuggling, or just relaxing the best interaction between humans, pets, and great drinks. For me, adding in the readings and works of my favorite authors brings this comfortable silence to a new level as I explore new characters who become new friends, new worlds that become as comfortable as my own home, new situations that yield opportunities for learning, suspense, romance, adventure and all the emotions that come with these.

I always feel honored that my readers take their valuable reading time to include my characters and their worlds and bring them into the hallowed snuggly, cuddly places. However, I also know that this doesn’t just happen by accident. A reader has to feel safe in order to invite you and your work into their world. As an author, we have a responsibility to ensure that whatever we bring into the reader's space with our written words is not going to ruin the treasured moments that we've been invited into.

What an honor that is as authors and writers to be trusted so much just to be allowed into those favorite spaces. It is our job to continue to build that trust by never letting the reader down. By crafting and generating the very best work we can so that when they’ve curled up with their favorite hot chocolate and snuggled under their favorite fuzzy blanket and open the pages that they are never let down by the places we’ve taken them, the friends they have met and the journey that we have shared.

So today, thank you for including me, my characters, my worlds, my adventures, into you’re safe hallowed trusted spaces. Thank you, dear reader, for including us in your cuddle time. National Cuddle Up Day comes only once a year but being included in yours is an honor. I hope it’s the best cuddle of the year. I can’t wait to see what the next 365 days bring until the next cuddle up day.
