Karen and Georgia's Ice Tea Day

Iced Tea Day

As Karen Dorchester pulled up into Georgia Palmer‘s driveway she thought what a beautiful summer afternoon. The sun was high and the sky was nearly cloudless another gorgeous Omaha day.

A signal from the door to come in came from her best friend for more than 30 years. Georgia’s son Quinton had recently married Karen‘s daughter Kileah and Georgia's other son Matt had already married Karen's daughter Sabrina, and today they really couldn’t wait to spend time together.

As Karen entered her friends home, their usual quick hug greeting was given with a joyous response, “come on in I have put iced tea in the sunroom," Georgia said, and they hurried together to the beautifully decorated glass, enclosed room in the back of the house. It was lovely as it expanded into the garden and allowed gracious indoor outdoor living with the excitement between the women was palpable.

"I made iced tea. Do you want your usual lemon and sweetener?" she asked her friend

"That would be marvelous," said Karen, as Georgia extended the large glass of iced tea with a lovely napkin, catching the sweating droplets of condensation.

"Thank you, Georgia." Both women sat for a moment savoring the cold brew when they both started talking almost at the same time.

” OMG, can you believe it?” Karen said.

”No can you? What a secret to be hiding and our own husband’s do you think they knew?” Karen said.

"I don’t think so. I know they both have been keeping secrets our entire lives and we accepted that when we chose them, but I don’t think even they could’ve kept this.” Georgia said still glowing with the incredible news as Georgia offered her friend a plate of cookies.

Karen said, “I don’t think so either, they keep a lot of professional secrets mostly to keep us and our family safe but if they knew this, they would have been glowing or something. You know that sneaky look the two of them get when they’re trying to keep a secret that has to do with our families.” She said as she accepted her favorite peanut butter cookie.

"I agree we would have known something big was a foot," Georgia said.

What I can’t believe is how Quinton and Kileah kept the secret for three months especially considering they apparently we’re having tons of test run to make sure that Kileah and our grandchildren we’re OK after the encounter with that murderer. “

"I’m so thankful they are and twins, Karen twins, we are getting twin grandchildren!" Excitement between the two women was nearly palpable.

"I am so excited it’s coming though Georgia. We will be a real family.”

"I know we hoped all those years ago and we raise these kids like family but now, we will be tied by blood, not just love."

The glowing grandmother’s were lounging in the sunroom, Georgia refilling their iced tea glasses and sharing that like so many other special moments with her friend over full ice tea glasses and peanut butter cookies. "Karen do you know if they are boys or girls?" she asked.

"Not a clue and they said they’re not telling. I Think the waiting for the next six months is gonna be awful."

They both laughed what a great way to share their lives! Best friends more than 30 years and now sharing grandchildren what an amazing life! Fresh iced tea, peanut butter cookies, a beautiful day and your best friend. It gets no better.
