Monday Moments with M. G.: The Masks We Choose
Halloween invites us to dress up but it may also reveal something true.
There is something magical about Halloween. Porch lights glow against the early darkness, pumpkins grin from front steps, and for one evening, the ordinary world makes room for imagination. Children become heroes, creatures, royalty, and adventurers. Adults join in, too sometimes with elaborate costumes and sometimes with nothing more than a favorite bowl of candy and a willingness to play along.
Costumes give us permission to step outside ourselves for a little while. Yet they also make me think about the less visible costumes we wear every day: the brave face when life feels uncertain, the practiced smile when we are weary, the confidence we borrow before taking a difficult step. Some masks protect us. Some help us grow. Others become so familiar that we forget we are wearing them.
This Halloween, perhaps the real invitation is not to judge the masks, but to notice them. Which role has helped you face a hard season? Which version of yourself is waiting for more room to breathe? And which disguise are you ready to set down?
A Monday Moment
Take one quiet minute today. Name one mask you have needed, one you have outgrown, and one true quality you want to carry into the week. Maybe it is courage. Maybe kindness. Maybe curiosity. You do not have to transform overnight. You only have to take one honest step.
May your Halloween hold a little wonder, a little laughter, and a reminder that beneath every role you play, there is a real and worthy you.
What mask has helped you and what are you ready to leave behind?
Until Next Time,
