Brunch is a fabulous idea! It’s been around since 1895 when according to: https://historyfacts.con/arts-culture/fact/the-term-bruch-first-appeared-in-1895/
British author Guy Beringer referred to it as ”Brunch” in his Hunter’s Weekly article - “Brunch - a plea.”
It changed the heavy sending meal into something totally different and became even more ingrained in our culture through experiences and gained popularity through the 1930s and into the 1960s where TV and fashion brought in to mainstream.
Usually conducted between 11-2 p.m. This breakfast lunch hybrid was listed in 1939 New York Times as the “2-Meal Day.
In the 1960s and 70s, my family observed brunch often on Sundays so that we could share it with my grandparents and other family members after church. It was still early enough. No one was starving late enough you could get out of early church and still have an afternoon activity like fishing, hiking, or just visiting.
When my mom serve brunch, she had special dinnerware and napkins that she used. I was surprised as an adult to find beautiful things specifically tailored to the brunch menus. I have included a few of my favorites:
My mom, and now I after her passing, have lovely linens, table cloths, table runners, and more lines specifically met for entertaining, but in my mom‘s case, she chose things for brunch that either had lovely floral arrangements on them or cups, saucers, and other cute items if you entertain often consider owning your own beautiful linens. It’s a quick way to prepare whether you purchase a beautiful set of paper napkins, table cloths, and table runners along with sets of disposable plates and cups, like these:
Or simple but beautiful linen sets like these:

You could also search your local Goodwill, yard sales, and Facebook marketplace to craft and create your own personal brunch set, which makes it such a special place for you and your family and your friends. That you’re hosting a special event or just choosing brunch as a way to treat those around you in a special way consider serving or participating or going to brunch. That’s a great way to make memories with those you love and care for.
Until next time
