CHARACTER BLOG SERIES by M. G. Lorraine

Happy Mother's Day from M. G. Lorraine

There is no better time to begin - or birth, if you will - this new blog series than Mother's Day! I hope this new feature will help introduce to you the characters in my upcoming book series! Dear reader, I hope you get to know and love them like I do. The ladies in this blog are the mothers of main characters in the Dorchester Sisters Novels. Look for the first book soon! It will be in stores Summer 2025!

Karen Dorchester and Georgia Palmer sat together over iced coffee. Tomorrow was Mother’s Day; this year, it has a special meaning. Karen had asked her friend over to visit. As they shared coffee and fresh fruit salads, she thought they should enjoy the day together, because this Mother’s Day would be different.
Thirty years ago, the two women had met at a kindergarten function. One a lawyer whose husband worked in high security and traveled a lot. The other, an interior designer of great skill, whose husband was an Air Force officer and worked in intelligence. Karen, the lawyer, had three daughters: Jennifer, Kileah, and Sabrina. Georgia had two sons: Quentin and Matt. The bond had formed quickly and so had the bonds between their families.
These friends depended on each other; sharing child raising duties as both husbands worked, traveled, built companies and climbed the military ladder. Through thick and through thin, they had been together and supported each other. “Georgia, do you realize tomorrow will be the 30th Mother’s Day that we have celebrated as best friends?” Karen asked.
”I do, Kar'. And I cannot tell you what your friendship and our own form of bonded family has meant for all of these years."
”Oh, me too,” Karen said, “ I can’t imagine this journey without you. I can’t even fathom the differences in both of our lives without us being best friends.”
”I totally agree, nothing in our life would be the same, certainly not the intertwining of our families as it has played out.”
“Tomorrow will be a different Mother’s Day. It will be the beginning of a new age, a new time and I know I am as excited to begin it with you as my best friend as I was all those years ago.”  Karen Palmer reached beside her chair and brought out a little bag and gave it to the cherished friend next to her.
Georgia shockingly said, “Karen what have you done?” with anticipation, filling her face.
”Just marking the day, because we’ve been through a lot together and I really thought we should have matching jewelry for tomorrow.”
Georgia looked at the little blue box in her hand and simply said, “Thank you.”
”I can’t even imagine the last 30 years without you, but I just thought we deserve these.” Karen indicated to her friend to open the perfect little package.
As Georgia lifted the lid, her eyes filled with tears, for inside the beautiful little jewelry box was a gorgeous pendant, a gold oval filled with five diamonds just like each of their children, and the engraving said, “My best friend is a fabulous Grandma!”
“Oh Karen, it is lovely! Tomorrow will be our first Mother’s Day as grandmothers and next year we will have even more grandchildren!” She said, a tear glistening in her eye.
”Exactly, Georgia! This is our first Mother’s Day as grandmothers and I thought we should make it memorable!”
“Oh, my friend, it is lovely! Thank you! I can’t even imagine the fun we’re going to have with this next 30 years.”
The two friends removed their pendants from the jewelry boxes and put them on.
“Exactly! It’s going to be fabulous!"

Happy Mother’s Day!
